Nicknamed ‘the Magnolia State,’ Mississippi is a state located in Southern United States. It shares state borders with Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, and is directly across Mississippi River. Mississippi is well known for its’ rich history, southern charm, vibrant culture, and exciting music scene which entices tourists from all over the world. It has beautiful views and has earned bragging rights from its’ various life changing innovations. That said, lets take a look at some of the lesser known facts about this great state;
Did you know that the name Mississippi is derived from the Indian word ‘Ojibwa (or Chippewa)’ which means ‘great river’ ‘father of waters’ or ‘gathering of waters’. You might also not know that the Teddy Bear was created as a result of President Theodore Roosevelt’s refusal to gun down an exhausted bear, while hunting in Sharkey County. News of this rapidly spread across the nation, and a famous New York merchant quickly capitalized on the publicity by making a stuffed bear and naming it ‘ the Teddy’s Bear.’
Mississippi Vape laws
There’s no statewide vaping regulations although sale/use of e-cigs is prohibited to anyone under the age of 18 years. Mississippi vape ban applies to electronic cigarettes or any other products which contain nicotine which can be ingested into the user’s body by inhaling, chewing, smoking, dissolving, absorbing or by any other means. The law further defines electronic cigarettes to mean any electronic product/device which produces vapor that delivers or contains nicotine or such other substances, to the person inhaling from that device to stimulate smoking.
That said, it should be noted some localities may regulate vaping differently from the state. For example, there is a complete indoor vape ban in localities such as; Anguilla, Arcola, Beulah, Baldwyn, Bassfield, Brandon, Bruce, Byram, Clinton, Calhoun City, Centreville, Coahoma, Courtland, Crawford, Duncan, Duck Hill, Durant, Ethel, Farmington, Gerogetown, Fayette, Forest, Friars Point, Holly Springs, Pickens, Indianola, Isola, Iuka, Itta Bena, Louisville, Magee, Monticello, Mantachie, Mendenhall, Moorhead, Nettleton, Petal, New Augusta, Pittsboro, Plantersville, Prentiss, Sidon, Rolling Fork, Sledge, Southaven, Sumner, Tupelo, Walnut, Tutwiler, Walnut Grove, Weir, Wesson, Woodville and Wiggins. Places with partial vape bans include; Diamondhead and Flowood.
